Mailchimp & WPForms for Email Marketing

Pairing Mailchimp & WPForms for email marketing has been my go-to method since last year. I use WPForms for my other blog, The Tiny Twenty-Something, and have been able to grow and organize my email list more efficiently since November 2020.

Email Marketing Tools & Strategies

Email Marketing is a great way to connect to readers and give them either exclusive material such as freebies, sneak peaks, early access to things like recipes or tutorials, and promo codes that non-subscribers won’t be able to get their hands on!

When you purchase a Business plan with WordPress.com, you automatically are able to use plugins at a lite version. Almost immediately after purchasing my Business plan with WordPress, I started using the Lite Version for WPForms. Just as it sounds, the lite version is great but it comes with a lot of limitations, such as not being able to do more than a simple signup form and connecting your license with other email marketing resources.

When you upgrade to any of the other WPForms plans, you get to have greater freedom such as how many websites you can add to your license, you can better customize your signup forms (and make a variety of WPForms), and the confirmation messages, and you can add things to your signups! I have the Plus plan because I need to be budget conscious and have enough freedom and management to make it worth it to me. The Plus plan is usually $200/year but right now it is 50% off.

Why Pair Mailchimp & WPForms?

You can connect your WPForms license with any email marketing platform. Other email marketing platforms include Constant Contact, DRIP (if you have an online store), SalesForce, etc. But since I have had Mailchimp since 2018, I decided to just keep what I was using and connect it to Mailchimp. I have WPForms connected to my email marketing platform because it makes sure that I won’t miss anyone by forgetting to update my email list.

Best Use for Mailchimp & WPForms for Email Marketing

As I said above, using Mailchimp & WPForms for Email Marketing for The Tiny Twenty-Something (and The Montana Woman Foundation), has made my blogging work easier. When I had the lite version of WPForms, I think I remember needing to manually update the Mailchimp account, and that wasn’t exactly something I wanted to do on a routine basis. With a WPForms license, you can connect Mailchimp and WPForms, designate your WPForms to update your Subscribers list, and then every time someone decides they want to be constantly in the loop with your awesome content or business information, you never have to think about it!

How to Connect Mailchimp & WPForms:

Connecting Mailchimp and WPForms is super easy! Once you have a WPForms license and have updated it in your WordPress (or other hosting platform), go to your plugin and click on Addons. There will be a host of additional tools that you can connect in order to make things more convenient for you. In the image below, Mailchimp is located on the bottom right corner.

WPForms Settings Screen

After you activate the Mailchimp Addon, you will need to go into your settings, click on Integrations, and connect your Mailchimp account with your WPForms accounts.

To find the information you need to connect your Mailchimp with WPForms, you will need your API Key- an API Key is a unique code that identifies your account.

  • To find you Mailchimp API Key, login to your Mailchimp account and go to your Settings Dahsboard by clicking on your Profile image in the bottom left corner.
  • In your Settings dashboard, click on Extras, then API Keys.
  • Once you’ve been redirected to that page, scroll down and click on Create a Key. Mailchimp will make you an API Key to paste in the fields for the WPForms Settings page (see above image). You can create several keys for 1 Mailchimp account- though that is not necessary.

Final Thoughts about Using Mailchimp & WPForms for Email Marketing

As a summary, using Mailchimp & WPForms for Email Marketing is an easy way to manage your email list without accidentally forgetting about a new subscriber. Using Addons is a great way to improve your chances of growing your email list, and ultimately your community of happy readers/customers. Not only is using a paid WPForm license a great way to simplify your blogging workload, but you can get really creative about your confirmation messages- such as redirecting them to a downloadable freebie. WPForms licenses start at $80 and go up to $600. RIGHT NOW they are 50% off!* (date: 4/22/2021).

*The 50% discount are for new customers only. I purchased my WPForms license in November during the Black Friday sale at the same discount. You should not pass this up!

Additional Disclaimer: I do not currently use WPForms for Katherine MC Johnson because I am using a premium plan for this website and WPForms cannot be used for unless it is a Business plan…. But I still think this is an awesome tool and it really has increased my email list for the year 2021 for The Tiny Twenty-Something and The Montana Woman Foundation.
