Short Links and their Significance

Short Links and their Significance

Short links, I have learned over the years, are very significant tools when it comes to online writing and marketing. Some years ago, I discovered their power and ease when creating web pages, social media and blog posts. Here is an overview of what a short link is and how you can take advantage of this nifty online tool.

What is a Short Link?

Short Links are exactly what they sound like: they are shortened URL links that lead back to your website pages or blog posts. Once you share/publish a page or post, platforms like WordPress create shortened link versions of said page/post.

They look a little like this: https://wp.me/p9M3FG-bk and it looks a lot better than the permalink: https://katherinemcjohnson.wordpress.com/2021/08/21/the-power-of-the-short-link

What Can You Do with Short Links?

Once you publish the page/post, you’re going to want to share it with the world (i.e your social media platforms and/or email Newsletters). No one wants to constantly take the extra time to type out the entire URL on Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and/or Facebook. And I doubt anyone will want to click on your Instagram website and go fishing for that blog post or web page.

Advantages of the Short Link:

When you’re creating content on your website, you’re going to want to share it with the world and you want to share it often. If you create blog posts/web pages in bulk (for example, posting blog articles in batches of 3), you don’t want all 3 of those to be posted to social media all at once. You want to stretch it out over the week/month/year. So you save or paste/copy the short links, create your social media posts, and keep the short links at the bottom of the post (or wherever else you like- just not in the first 150-200 words!).

Tailwind & Short Links

You can also use Tailwind- which I highly recommend. Writing everything down in a document/Note was my method before I started using Tailwind to schedule everything in advance. If you want Tailwind right away, use this link or start by reading about my experience with Tailwind. If you use Tailwind for Instagram, you get 31 Free Posts and 100 Free Pins on Pinterest as part your Free Trial.

If you want to bring a post/web page back to your audiences’ attention, simply create a new graphic (or use the same one as last time) and present it with new post text with the short link at the bottom and relevant hashtags.
